Tent Permit and Miss Utility Ticket
If you are planning to have a tent 900 sq. ft. or larger, Isle of Wight County requires you to have a tent permit. Very few tent companies will handle the permitting process for you. If your tent company does not, then you will be responsible for obtaining the permit. You are also required to call in a Miss Utility Ticket.
Tent Permit Process:
Tent Permit Process:
- Download the tent permit application below
- Reach out to your tent company and obtain the tent floor plan and Certificate of Flame Resistances.
- Fill out the application and sign the Liability Form. The Liability Form is required if your tent company does not obtain this permit for you.
- Send the two documents from the tent company and pages 2-4 from the application packet to planreview@isleofwightus.net. You have the option to send the application by mail or deliver it in person but these options require two copies of everything and will take longer.
- If you have any questions reach out Danielle Stauffer at dstauffer@smithfieldva.gov or to the Isle of Wight Planning office at planreview@isleofwightus.net
- Once the application has been approved (usually 2 weeks) the county will send you a permit. Please forward the permit to dstauffer@smithfieldva.gov or you can bring a hard copy with you to your checklist appointment.
